12 Songs. 12 Heartbeats. Will Preston Completes Inside the Heartbeats
10/7/26 – What began as a deeper look inside the songs of Erratic Heartbeats has unfolded into something much larger.
Will Preston has completed Inside the Heartbeats, a 12-part visual series created around his latest album, pairing candid reflections from his conversation with RnB Junkie with cinematic imagery designed to explore the emotional world behind each song.
Across twelve chapters, Preston moves beyond simply explaining how the songs were written. Instead, Inside the Heartbeats examines the contradictions, complications and unexpected turns that make love considerably less predictable than the idealized version so often celebrated in music.
That philosophy sits at the center of Erratic Heartbeats itself.
“The thing with this project is the exploration of the journey of love,” Preston explained during his conversation with RnB Junkie. “I think that we’re all guilty of viewing love from an idealistic perspective.”
The album deliberately pushes beyond that perspective, exploring not only romance and connection, but confusion, secrecy, vulnerability, regret, loneliness, emotional cycles and the complicated decisions people make while trying to navigate relationships.
Inside the Heartbeats gives those ideas a visual language.
Twelve songs. Twelve different heartbeats.
“Ugh Love” opens the journey with emotional exhaustion, examining what happens when the complications of relationships begin to make love itself feel exhausting.
“Stuck In the Middle” enters the dangerous space between friendship and attraction, where clearly defined boundaries become considerably less clear once feelings enter the equation.
“Maybe I’m Crazy Too” turns the lens inward, confronting the uncomfortable realization that sometimes we recognize the chaos in a relationship and willingly participate in it anyway.
“Pieces Of Our Hearts” explores heartbreak without spectacle, focusing instead on the quieter erosion that can happen when two people become so focused on protecting themselves that they stop protecting what they built together.
“It Was So Easy” looks backward, remembering the period when love seemed effortless before life, expectations and experience made everything more complicated.
“I’ll Give It Right Back” introduces possibility and growth, considering what might happen when a missed opportunity returns after time has given both people the chance to become something different.
“Between Us” explores intimacy through privacy and discretion, asking whether everything meaningful needs an audience in a world where increasingly little remains private.
“I Just Can’t Understand” lives in the questions left behind when a relationship ends without the explanations necessary to make sense of it.
“Merry Go Round” examines the relationship cycle that keeps returning to its beginning: separation, longing, reconnection, hope and the eventual realization that familiar scenery may mean you have been here before.
“Don’t Like Falling In Love” separates romance from vulnerability, exploring the difference between enjoying intimacy and actually surrendering enough of yourself to fall in love.
“Love On A Lonely Night” asks another complicated question: What happens when someone who is perfectly capable of being alone encounters one of those nights when solitude suddenly feels different?
And “Of Course I Lied” closes the twelve-chapter journey with confession, examining the lies people sometimes tell not simply to deceive someone else, but to protect themselves from truths they may not yet be ready to confront.
Taken individually, the chapters tell twelve different stories.
Together, they reveal the larger ambition behind Erratic Heartbeats.
A fuller picture of love
For Preston, creating the album meant resisting the temptation to present love only through its most romantic moments.
“While some of the themes throughout the songs on Erratic Heartbeats aren’t the most glamorous themes of love, it does paint a more full picture of love,” he explained.
That fullness may ultimately be what distinguishes the project.
Love can be exhilarating and disappointing. Certain and confusing. Private and exposed. Healthy in one moment and complicated in another. It can make people leave, return, protect themselves, surrender, question what happened and occasionally say something entirely different from what they actually feel.
Those contradictions are not interruptions in the story.
They are part of it.
As Preston puts it, “True love, to be honest, is not always beautiful.”
And that idea ultimately brings the album’s title into focus.
“It’s not always beating to that nice, succinct rhythm,” Preston explained. “Sometimes things are erratic. There are spikes, there are ebbs, there are flows. But it’s a rhythm nonetheless.”
The heartbeat continues
With all twelve chapters of Inside the Heartbeats now delivered, another chapter of the Erratic Heartbeats experience has reached its destination.
But the larger story has not.
If anything, exploring these songs individually has revealed just how much territory remains inside the project. The stories, conversations, visual language and emotional themes surrounding Erratic Heartbeats have created opportunities to experience the album well beyond its original twelve tracks.
And some of those possibilities are already beginning to take shape.
For now, all twelve heartbeats are here.
The rhythm continues.
